About

Richard brings a wide range of life experiences to his role as celebrant, meaning every ceremony is perfectly crafted for the individual occasion.

Based in Lichfield, Richard has a background encompassing the IT industry, teaching, academia, and cathedral music.

Having initially worked in the IT industry for over a decade, Richard retrained as an English teacher, eventually becoming an Assistant Headteacher, before leaving education to focus on other priorities.

During his time in industry and the education sector, Richard also completed his own university education, which culminated in a doctorate in Literature from the University of Cambridge.

Alongside everything in his life, Richard has been a cathedral musician since childhood, and is a member of Lichfield Cathedral Choir.

Richard is married and has a daughter. In his free time he enjoys tinkering with technology, cooking, reading, and the theatre.

Richard’s instinctive ability to work with people developed through his teaching, and his practical approach demonstrated though his IT work combine well to bring a level of understanding to his role as a celebrant.

His love of language, illustrated through his commitment to the subject though his teaching and own academic work, means that the words he writes for every ceremony are personalised and built on an understanding of the people involved.

His experiences in cathedral music mean that he is comfortable to include spiritual readings and prayers in his ceremonies, if required, but is equally at home leading wholly non-religious ceremonies which adopt a humanist standpoint and focus on human agency and the individual.
